Job summary

The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is seeking a Policy Analyst to develop and interpret policies and advance national advocacy positions on First Nations homelessness. The role focuses on research, policy proposals, and collaboration with government agencies, educational institutions, and First Nations communities.

You will present findings, prepare policy briefs, and help shape AFN’s policy directions with strong communication and project management skills.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Indigenous Studies, Public Policy, Policy Administration, Political Sciences, or related field with 3–5 years of relevant experience.
• Minimum 3 years of policy analysis experience, preferably with First Nations or related programs.
• Strong understanding of international agreements and regulatory frameworks from a First Nations lens.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive research on First Nations policies and best practices.
• Develop policy proposals and recommendations based on research and partner consultations.
• Evaluate existing policies to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
• Collaborate with government, educational institutions, and First Nations to ensure policy coherence.
• Prepare reports, policy briefs, and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations.
• Present research outcomes to internal and external partners, including government officials and First Nations communities.
• Build and maintain relationships with First Nations communities, educational institutions, and government officials.
• Stay informed about developments affecting First Nations concerns.
• Participate in working groups and coordinate AFN’s participation in meetings.
