Job description

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, install, replace, update, and maintain all Board plumbing systems. Provide support for plumbing operations, work with/assist other trades, and supervise part-time help.

Major Duties
  1. Install, replace, update, and maintain all Board plumbing systems, including water fixtures, piping, and connections for washrooms, classrooms, furnace rooms, special function rooms, septic tanks, wells, roof drains, water pump systems, cooling towers, stand pipes (fire), computerized energy conservation systems, etc.
  2. Maintain, replace, and repair plumbing fixtures, piping, and connections that are worn out or vandalized.
  3. Retrofitting and upgrading: install new fixtures, connections, and piping in renovated spaces and Board buildings.
  4. Plan and install plumbing for special rooms for multi-handicapped students.
  5. Install, program, and monitor computerized energy management systems to ensure they can handle additional stress.
  6. Inspect and report on potable water quality, conduct testing, and ensure safety precautions.
  7. Inspect, monitor, and repair domestic water backflow preventer devices.
  8. Monitor and report materials and equipment needs for plumbing operations to ensure safety.
  9. Maintain sprinkler systems, perform repairs and maintenance to piping and system heads.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain electronic devices operating plumbing fixtures (e.g., Bradley Basins).
  • Assist other trades as required and coordinate projects with H.V.A.C., Electricians, Carpenters, etc.
  • Supervise part-time help, co-op students, and summer workers, including assigning work and providing instructions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Equipment Used

Plumbing tools: power augers, torches, welding equipment, pumps, wrenches, ladders, scaffolding, vacuum, electric drain cleaners, air compressors, trucks/vans.

Other: kango guns, hoisting equipment, jacks, cherry pickers.

Qualifications
  • Ontario Certificate of Qualification in Plumbing
  • Certified OWWA Connection Control Specialist
  • Certified Small Well Water Systems
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of W.H.M.I.S., safety regulations, fire codes, building codes, health regulations, plumbing codes, and related trades.
  • Effective communication skills with staff, students, and the public.

This is a 40-hour/week, 12-month permanent day shift position.

Seniority and merit will apply as per the collective agreement.
