Job summary

Manulife Financial is seeking a Lead Platform Reliability Engineer to strengthen the stability, performance, and scalability of our shared AI development platform. You will blend software engineering with SRE practices to deliver reliable, developer-friendly services across global teams.

In this role, you’ll define SLOs/SLIs, lead incident response, build observability foundations, and advance automation through AIOps, MLOps, and GitOps pipelines while practicing secure, policy-driven operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in CS/Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 5-8 years in DevOps/Platform Engineering or Production Operations.
• Experience with cloud-native development: Azure, Kubernetes, containers, CI/CD, and observability stacks.
• Knowledge of Python and/or Java/Scala/TypeScript for building backend services and automation.
• Understanding of AI solutions, LLM systems, retrieval architectures, embeddings, vector stores, and agent workflows.
• Knowledge of API design, asynchronous workflows, reliability engineering (SLOs, error budgets), and performance tuning.
• Familiarity with security, governance, and compliance for AI/data systems.

Responsibilities

• Define SLOs/SLIs, capacity planning, autoscaling tuning.
• Build logging, metrics, tracing, alerting; dashboards.
• On-call for incidents; triage, root-cause, postmortems.
• Develop self-service capabilities and CI/CD pipelines.
• Manage IaC with Terraform/Ansible; prevent drift.
• Enforce identity, secrets, supply chain security and compliance.
• Optimize resource usage and cost; rightsizing and reservations.
• Safe change management and progressive delivery.
• Productize platform; align SLAs with roadmap and developer UX.
• Collaborate with global teams on cross-geo regulations.
