Job summary

Mainland in Canada seeks an experienced Pipelayer to efficiently install pipes for civil projects, including water, sanitary sewer, hydro and storm systems. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork and quality workmanship on outdoor sites.

Candidates should read blueprints, understand specifications, and work flexibly with hours. Union wage base is $43.84/hour plus 12.5% vacation/holidays; training and strong safety focus are offered.

Qualifications

  • Experience in civil utilities including storm, sanitary sewer, water, and hydro.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications.
  • Working knowledge of pipe grading, survey, and evaluations.
  • Able to identify hazards and communicate safety issues as they arise.
  • Flexible with hours, including overtime and weekend work.
  • First aid, confined space, and fall protection training is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely on a construction site and promote a safe work environment adhering to safety policies.
  • Work with the Foreman to ensure pipe is aligned, positioned, and installed per project specs.
  • Support the safe assembly and use of trench shoring systems.
  • Backfill and compact around pipe to ensure proper positioning and support.
  • Maintain equipment and report maintenance issues promptly.
  • Train other employees and support daily site activities.

The Opportunity

ThePipelayerwill be responsible for the efficient installation of a variety of pipes and fittings related to civil construction including water, sanitary sewer, hydro and storm water collection systems.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work safely on a construction site and promote a safe work environment adhering to safety policies and procedures including participation in safety meetings
  • Work with the Foreman and other team members to ensure pipe is aligned, positioned, and installed in accordance with project specifications
  • Support the safe assembly and use of trench shoring systems
  • Ensure back fill and compaction around pipe to ensure proper positioning and support
  • Maintain equipment and promptly report any maintenance issues

  • Train other employees and maintain quality results of work
  • Support other crew members on daily site activities outside of job scope
Qualifications, Experience & Skillset
  • Experience in civil utilities including storm, sanitary sewer, water, and hydro
  • Experience using pipe and rotary lasers
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications
  • Working knowledge of pipe grading, survey, and evaluations
  • Able to identify all hazards associated with various aspects of working in civil projects, as well as correctly communicate safety issues as they arise
  • First aid, confined space, and fall protection training is an asset
  • Good communications ability, able to work with variety of individuals
  • Must be physically fit, able to spend most or all of shift standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and working hands-on in an outdoor environment in all types of weather
  • Flexible with hours worked, including overtime and weekend work as needed
  • Willingness to learn and have a good work ethic
What we offer
  • Unionized base wage of $43.84/hour (wage subject to negotiation based on candidate's experience), plus 12.5% of gross earnings for vacation / statutory holidays.
