Job summary

IDL Projects Inc. is seeking a pipelayer to join our growing team in Canada. You will install underground utilities, pre-locate existing utilities, and work with heavy equipment to ensure safe, high-quality work according to plans and codes.

The role requires at least 1 year of pipe laying or utility installation experience and a valid Class 5 license. You will handle hydro, Telus, and Shaw ducting while maintaining safety standards on site.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year experience as pipe layer or skilled labourer in utility installation.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license required.
  • Familiarity with tools and equipment for pipe installation.
  • Knowledge of safe excavations and WorkSafeBC guidelines.
  • Ability to assemble and install shoring or trench cages.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans and drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Dig with excavator to ensure trench grade and backfill are correct.
  • Lay pipe to design grade and ensure proper tamping.
  • Bolt and connect fittings per manufacturer specs.
  • Cut concrete and set manholes or box culverts for various applications.
  • Notify supervisor of conflicts and assist with related duties.

Job description

Position Summary

The pipelayer is part of an effective construction team that successfully installs underground utilities according to approved plans, specifications and applicable codes while maintaining high quality and a safe workplace.

Responsibilities
  • Installing underground utilities to designed grades and applicable construction standards including storm, water and sewer mains and services.
  • Pre-locating existing utilities and working with heavy equipment to ensure that existing utilities are exposed without contact.
  • Locating existing pipes needing repair or replacement, using magnetic or radio indicators
  • Installation of Hydro, Telus, and Shaw ducting.
  • Utilizing different shoring methods to provide a safe excavation for entry.
  • Setting up pipe laser and establishing proper design grade.
  • Organizing all tools and equipment required for the job at the beginning of the shift.
  • Digging with an excavator to ensure trench grade, bedding depths, and backfill are installed correctly.
  • Laying pipe to design grade and ensuring proper tamping of pipe.
  • Bolting up mechanically restrained fittings, valves, and pipe to manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Cutting concrete and set manholes, box culverts, chambers, etc. for different applications including live utility main overbuilds.
  • Notifying the supervisor of any installation conflicts immediately.
  • May perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year’s experience as either a pipe layer or skilled labourer in a utility installation setting including extensive experience with the installation of storm, water, and sanitary main and services as well as the installation of Hydro, Telus, and Shaw.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of tools and equipment required for the job.
  • Be completely familiar with cutting/beveling pipe.Possess a strong understanding of safe excavations and WorkSafeBC guidelines for excavation requirements, and have the ability to work around excavation equipment and in tight areas safely
  • Know how to assemble and install shoring or trench cages in excavations as required.
  • Have an understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.
  • Ability to thoroughly read, understand, and interpret civil construction plans and drawings.
