Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority seeks a Physiotherapist to assess, diagnose and treat patients, develop holistic rehab plans, and educate patients and families. The role requires collaboration with a clinical team, supervision of students, and weekend work in some areas of the hospital.

Requirements include Bachelor or Master in Physiotherapy, provincial licensure, CPR certification, and WHMIS training. The position is a permanent full-time role at Northern Zone, Colchester East Hants Health

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are required.
• Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Physiotherapy, or Master of Science in Physiotherapy.
• Membership with the Nova Scotia College Regulator of Physiotherapy (provincial licensing).
• Annual BCLS certification and WHMIS training are required.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with impairment or functional limitations.
• Educate and communicate with other health disciplines and caregivers.
• Supervise physiotherapy students and assistants; contribute to team goals.
• Collaborate with the clinical team and participate in service evaluation.
• Occasional weekend work may be required across Rehabilitation Services.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Physiotherapist assesses, diagnoses and treats patients who present with actual or potential impairment, pain, functional limitations or disabilities. Physiotherapy assessment involves obtaining a detailed medical history, performing specific and standardized tests and evaluation procedures to determine a physical diagnosis. Holistic treatment programs are developed using exercises, education, and manual, mechanical, electrical and hydrotherapy techniques to assist the patient in regaining and/or maintaining an optimal level of function. The physiotherapist educates and communicates with other health disciplines, the general public, family members and caregivers with regard to health promotion, physiotherapy treatment and patient management. The physiotherapist provides supervision and evaluation of physiotherapy students and supervision of physiotherapy assistants and aides. The physiotherapist reports to a Health Services Manager and as a member of a clinical team, the physiotherapist collaborates with colleagues to determine team goals and objectives, participated in the evaluation of team effectiveness, and solves problems and shares responsibilities. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are required. Physiotherapists work on weekends in many areas of the hospital .The successful applicant may be required to provide services anywhere within the Rehabilitation Services portfolio.

About You

• Membership with the Nova Scotia College Regulator of Physiotherapy (Provincial licensing body)
• Annual Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation certification (BCLS)
• Annual Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System training and certification. (WHMIS)
• Access to reliable transportation as community visits may be required
• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

• Permanent full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly

Compensation and Benefits

$38.43 - $50.99 hourly
