The Canadian Medical Protective Association is seeking a Physician Manager, Knowledge Translation to lead member learning programs and knowledge translation initiatives. The role oversees Physician Advisors, drives the learning strategy, and ensures high-quality educational content across Canada.
The incumbent will coach a cross-functional team, collaborate with senior leadership, and promote a member-focused, professional culture while supporting continuous improvement in educational delivery.
The Safe Medical Care and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion portfolio is central to the CMPA's vision of being a learning organization. SMC-EDI incorporates needs assessment, design, delivery, and evaluation within a continuous improvement cycle to deliver learning to members and CMPA employees. Within SMC-EDI, The Insights and Thought Leadership department’s core activities include knowledge generation (research) and knowledge translation (learning). The department utilizes state of the art pedagogical science to share knowledge and improve practice of members and their teams while also contributing to the internal learning needs of CMPA staff, leaders, and governance through internal collaborations.
The Safe Medical Care Insights & Thought Leadership (SMCInTL) department advances the CMPA’s mission by integrating internal and external data sources, transforming evidence into novel insights, actionable knowledge, and impactful resources to support the safety of medical care. The department studies historical data to identify individual provider, team and system factors associated with medical-legal risk, researches trends, and evaluates the performance and impact of education programs. The department synthesizes evidence and disseminates its research findings by authoring reports, risk management communications, and educational materials in collaboration with other departments. The department also responds to internal and external requests for data analysis.
The Physician Manager, Knowledge Translation provides a central leadership role in the design and delivery of learning activities and products. This role is responsible for providing oversight and leadership to Physician Advisors who act as subject matter experts and are accountable for the content development and delivery of member-focused learning activities. The role oversees the development of the overall member-facing learning strategy, evaluation, and continuous improvement and all learning activities to enhance the Member Experience.
The Physician Manager, Knowledge Translation supports a team of Physician Advisors and Senior Education Specialists to ensure they are equipped, educated, and empowered to successfully meet the requirements of the department and the needs of members. The incumbent schedules the assignment of work activities, monitors individual and team performance, and provides ongoing coaching and feedback to employees involved in content development and delivery work.
This role leads and/or participates in various education-related working groups, committees, and projects. The incumbent collaborates with the SMC Insights & Thought Leadership management team to frame educational direction and the accompanying curriculum structure and priorities.
The incumbent works with the Director, SMC Insights & Thought Leadership to optimize work processes related to the development of learning activities. The incumbent supports effective team, departmental and cross-departmental communications, and works to promote a member-focused, professional and ethical culture and work environment.
Working closely with other SMCInTL leaders, this role collaborates with various cross-departmental and organizational-wide initiatives (eg. the wider SMC-EDI portfolio, Technology & Privacy, Strategic Engagement and Advocacy, Member Experience Performance & Evaluation, Medico-legal Services.)
