Key Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, direct, and evaluate daily central fill operations across two rotating shifts to ensure consistent productivity, quality, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Manage and assign duties to staff, including Shift Captains and production team members, ensuring appropriate coverage, workload distribution, and performance.
  • Develop and execute shift schedules and workforce plans that align with production forecasts, customer demand, and order volumes.
  • Analyze operational trends and internal performance data to determine service gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate with IT teams and vendors to resolve technical issues related to automation systems, improving system uptime and order accuracy.
  • Determine the services offered by the central fill site and ensure optimal resource allocation to meet service level agreements with retail pharmacies.
  • Monitor and control departmental budgets, authorize expenditures, and identify cost-saving opportunities through process optimization and efficiency projects.
  • Lead team development initiatives including coaching, performance evaluations, training, and succession planning to improve employee engagement and retention.
  • Maintain compliance with Health Canada regulations and internal SOPs, acting as Alternate Qualified Person in Charge (A/QPIC) as designated.
  • Source and liaise with vendors or internal suppliers as required to ensure availability of supplies, pharmaceuticals, and packaging materials.
  • Lead implementation of Lean or Six Sigma-based continuous improvement projects to reduce waste, improve workflows, and enhance overall operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain policies related to quality, safety, and compliance, promoting a secure and inclusive work environment.
  • Evaluate and improve service delivery, responding to escalations from retail customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Plan and execute employee engagement initiatives, action feedback from engagement surveys, and promote a collaborative team culture.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic initiatives, reporting KPIs such as production output, turnaround time, accuracy, and system uptime.
  • Facilitate effective cross-functional communication across departments and shifts to ensure smooth operations and timely issue resolution.
  • Develop and implement site-level operational strategies and goals in alignment with broader organizational objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, engineering, operations management, or a related field is preferred
  • 2–3 years of managerial or supervisory experience in a healthcare, pharmaceutical, central fill, or manufacturing environment
  • Experience managing large teams across multiple shifts, with strong people management, coaching, and engagement skills
  • Knowledge of central fill operations and pharmacy workflows is preferred
  • Must be eligible under Health Canada regulations to serve as an Alternate Qualified Person in Charge (A/QPIC), and have prior experience in that capacity
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma; Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a strong asset
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and manage complex, cross-functional projects
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on operational efficiency and issue resolution
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to foster collaboration across departments
  • Strong relationship-building skills and ability to perform in a fast-paced, regulated, multi-project environment
  • Proficiency with central fill automation systems and Microsoft Office is considered an asset
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with flexibility to adjust work hours to meet operational needs
  • Leadership or management certification, or willingness to obtain one, is considered an asset
