Job summary

Custom Health seeks a Pharmacy Operations Manager / Pharmacist (Logistics focus) to lead safe, efficient delivery of pharmacy services. The role blends pharmacist duties with operational leadership, including dispensing workflow, inventory, quality, compliance, and team performance management.

You will supervise pharmacists and staff, ensure regulatory compliance, and collaborate with clinicians to optimize patient outcomes in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, Doctor of Pharmacy or equivalent recognized degree.
• Current pharmacist registration and license in good standing.
• 3–5 years of pharmacy-practice experience.
• Supervisory or team-lead experience in pharmacy operations.
• Strong knowledge of pharmacy regulations, medication safety, privacy, QA, and health & safety requirements.
• Experience using pharmacy-management, dispensing, inventory, and third-party billing systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily pharmacy operations: dispensing, verification, workflow, inventory, billing, patient service, and scheduling.
• Practice as a pharmacist per legislation, standards, policies, and patient safety.
• Review prescriptions for appropriateness, interactions, allergies, dosing, and therapeutic issues.
• Provide patient counselling and collaborate with prescribers to resolve issues.
• Supervise, coach, schedule, train, and support pharmacists, technicians, and staff.
• Ensure staff work within scope, follow procedures, and meet quality standards.
• Maintain compliance with pharmacy regulations, privacy, and safety requirements.
• Oversee inventory, packaging, purchasing, supplier relationships, recalls, expiry, and waste reduction.
• Monitor performance: prescription volumes, turnaround time, dispensing accuracy, labor, costs, satisfaction, service levels.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, complaints, and issues; implement corrective actions.
• Support budgeting, cost control, workflow optimization, tech, and growth.
• Partner with Operations, Clinical, Finance, HR, IT, payers, suppliers, and providers to improve service.

Position Summary

The Pharmacy Operations Manager / Pharmacist (Logistics focus) leads the safe, efficient, compliant, and patient-centered delivery of pharmacy services. This role combines pharmacist practice responsibilities with operational leadership, including dispensing workflow, patient care, team leadership, inventory, quality, compliance, and performance management.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead daily pharmacy operations, including dispensing, prescription verification, workflow management, inventory, billing, patient service, and team scheduling.
• Practice as a pharmacist in accordance with applicable legislation, professional standards, pharmacy policies, and patient-safety requirements.
• Review prescriptions for appropriateness, accuracy, interactions, allergies, contraindications, dosing concerns, and therapeutic issues.
• Provide patient counselling and collaborate with prescribers and other healthcare professionals to resolve medication-related issues.
• Supervise, coach, schedule, train, and support pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, assistants, and support staff.
• Ensure employees work within their scope of practice and follow required procedures, documentation, quality standards, and professional expectations.
• Maintain compliance with pharmacy regulations, controlled-substance requirements, privacy obligations, workplace health and safety requirements, and quality-assurance standards.
• Oversee medication inventory, multidose prescription packaging, purchasing, supplier relationships, recalls, expiry management, waste reduction, and secure handling of controlled substances and hazardous materials.
• Monitor pharmacy performance, including prescription volumes, turnaround time, dispensing accuracy, labor utilization, inventory costs, billing issues, patient satisfaction, and service levels.
• Investigate medication incidents, near misses, complaints, and operational issues; implement corrective actions and continuous-improvement initiatives.
• Support budgeting, cost control, workflow optimization, technology implementation, and pharmacy-service growth.
• Partner with Operations, Clinical, Finance, HR, IT, payers, suppliers, and healthcare providers to improve service delivery and operational performance.

Working conditions

This role may require onsite pharmacy work, standing for extended periods, handling medication inventory, and occasional flexibility to support operational requirements. The successful candidate must meet all applicable licensing, privacy, background-check, health and safety, and training requirements.

Requirements

Required qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, Doctor of Pharmacy, or equivalent recognized pharmacy degree.
• Current pharmacist registration and license in good standing with the applicable provincial pharmacy regulatory authority.
• Minimum of [3-5] years of pharmacy-practice experience.
• Previous supervisory, team-lead, or pharmacy-operations experience.
• Strong knowledge of pharmacy regulations, medication safety, controlled substances, privacy, quality assurance, and health and safety requirements.
• Experience using pharmacy-management, dispensing, inventory, and third-party billing systems.
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, leadership, organization, problem-solving, and relationship-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, regulated environment and manage competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in specialty pharmacy, digital health, central fill, mail-order, compounding, long-term care, or high-volume pharmacy operations.
• Experience with specialty medications, payer coordination, prior authorization, patient-support programs, or medication adherence.
• Additional prescribing authority, injection certification, or other applicable clinical credentials.
• Experience managing budgets, KPIs, quality improvement, pharmacy technology, or process-improvement initiatives.
• Postgraduate education in pharmacy administration, healthcare administration, business, leadership, or a related field.
