Job Summary

The Pharmacy Assistant is responsible for assisting Pharmacists in accurately dispensing medications to patients, following the code of ethics by the College of Pharmacy in the respective Province. The Pharmacy Coordinator role is a successor role for the Pharmacy Assistant.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Provide exemplary customer service via phone and email
• Create patient files in pharmacy software including Kroll
• Manage site calendars, appointment changes, dispensing, and shipping schedules
• Accurately dispense medications ensuring timely delivery
• Understand third-party billing and resolve issues with adjudicators and plan administrators
• Bill prescriptions accurately, ensuring all documentation is appropriate
• Schedule and dispense medications accurately
• Adhere to all relevant guidelines and SOPs
• Develop and maintain professional relationships with healthcare professionals, stakeholders, clients, reimbursement coordinators, provincial ministries, and private payers
• Follow-up with patients for accounts, refills, and shipments
• Refer medical questions to Pharmacists
• Package medications for shipment
• Assist with inventory management and reconciliation

Key Requirements:

Knowledge:

• Secondary School Diploma

Skills and Abilities:

• Working knowledge of retail pharmacy setting
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail
• Ability to learn new software; knowledge of Kroll is an asset
• Organizational, time management, and teamwork skills
• Accountable and results-oriented
• Ability to take direction quickly, work independently

Experience:

• At least 1 year in retail pharmacy/hospital setting
• Experience in specialty pharmacy is an asset but not required

Supervision and Communication:

• Proficient in English (oral and written); multilingualism is an asset
