Job description

Staff Pharmacist (Permanent, Full-time) Reporting to the Director, Pharmacy Services, based out of ARTA’s head office in Edmonton, the Staff Pharmacist will serve as an expert resource providing direct support to ARTA members and the Member Services team. They will answer complex questions regarding the ARTA prescription plan pricing, policies, and programs. The Pharmacist will collaborate with pharmacy staff on dispensary operations and strategic health programs, ensuring high-quality service to ARTA members.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Providing expert advice on pharmacy benefits via various communication channels.
  2. Advising on MAC and LCA pricing policies.
  3. Coordinating with claims adjudication for authorization and coverage issues.
  4. Supporting navigation of benefits with government plans on high-cost medications.
  5. Assisting members with escalated coverage issues.
  6. Supporting the Director, Pharmacy Services.
  7. Leading pharmacy operations in compliance with Alberta legislation and standards.
  8. Supervising pharmacy team members.
  9. Leading health promotion programs and vaccination services.
  10. Managing inventory of prescriptions and over-the-counter medications.
  11. Supporting pharmacy education as a practicum site for the University of Alberta.

Qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD, with authorization for drug administration and additional prescribing authority. Prior experience in community or hospital pharmacy, familiarity with pharmacy automation, and proficiency in KROLL are assets. Due to the vulnerable population served, employees are encouraged to follow public health recommendations, including vaccinations, though vaccination is not mandatory.
