Under the supervision of the pharmacy manager and/or pharmacy supervisor, the pharmacist supports the efficient daily clinical operation of the pharmacy. This includes providing quality products and services to patients and acting as a drug information resource for internal stakeholders.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and accrediting body standards. Practice pharmacy to full professional scope.
  • Obtain, interpret, and evaluate physician medication orders for therapeutic appropriateness, cost-effectiveness, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Provide technical and clinical drug information to patients, nurses, and physicians, including therapeutic actions, adverse reactions, and interactions.
  • Participate in clinical activities with nurses and physicians as required.
  • Collaborate and delegate appropriately to pharmacy personnel, patient support programs, scheduling, and nursing teams.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless, collaborative patient care.
  • Monitor patients on treatment through routine follow-ups; document and collaborate based on results.
  • Initiate, review, and update documentation per Bayshore Policy and Procedure (P&P).
  • Follow procedures for drug and supply procurement; maintain accurate inventory levels, including narcotics and controlled substances.
  • Ensure medication quality is maintained throughout the workflow up to patient receipt.
  • Report adverse events according to Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain all legally required records accurately.
  • Assist in training and orientation of new employees.
  • Perform and document compounding checks and double checks per P&P.
  • Prepare and/or check infusion supply orders, equipment programming (e.g., infusion pumps), and compounding sheets.
  • Adhere to stability, compatibility guidelines, and quality control procedures.
  • Perform accurate computer order-entry, labeling, and dispensing in accordance with College of Pharmacists regulations.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities, educational programs, and departmental/branch meetings.
  • Understand full pharmacy operations and perform other duties as assigned.

Experience

  • Experience within a specialty pharmacy is considered an asset.

Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited college or university
  • Licensed and in good standing with the Provincial College of Pharmacists to provide direct patient care
  • Injection training (asset)
  • CPR certification (asset)

Other Skills And Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
  • Clinically focused mindset
  • Experience with Kroll pharmacy software
  • Strong communication skills (phone, email, and in-person)
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a team
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and capable of working independently
  • Proficient with computers (word processing, databases, spreadsheets, etc.)

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of variables in situations with limited standardization
  • Capable of defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions
  • Able to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to talk and listen
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for dispensing activities and computer use
  • May be required to lift 25–50 lbs
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit
  • Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
