Job description

Request for Freelance/Consultant

We are seeking a freelance consultant who is an expert in the Pharmaceutical / Medical industry. This person will help Vetster ensure that programs and materials meet legal requirements, are accurately and clearly presented, and are in-line with Vetster’s dedication to safe, accurate and ethical pet health care.

The scope of work will include but is not limited to:

  1. Editorial Review → Working with writers, editors and marketing experts to ensure content regarding prescription and non-prescription products are accurate, clear and compliant with legal and marketing guidelines. Reviewing medication-related web pages, public-facing messaging, and other educational materials.
  2. Advisory Services → Working with executives, veterinarians, and operations team members to provide input to the development of programs and services at Vetster including but not limited to case reviews, product design, and process development for medical compliance.

The ideal candidate is fluent in pharmacy and medical terminology, understands the federal and state laws governing veterinary prescription drug information across the US and Canada, and can ensure information is clear and accessible to readers.

The successful candidate will work closely with our writing and content teams, providing constructive, actionable feedback that fosters growth and collaboration. While your expertise will be a key resource, final decisions will rest with the company.

The expected scope of work is: 20 hours per week for a 3 month assignment with the possibility of extension.

Additional Details

Editorial Review & Development

  • Review and approve content related to veterinary prescription medications for accuracy, educational value, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of the veterinary pharmaceutical industry including new drugs, veterinary pharmaceutical regulations, publishing standards, and emerging scientific research.
  • Ensure all public-facing messaging meets standards set by regulatory authorities and aligns with veterinary industry best practices.
  • Verify appropriate terminology use, dosage instructions, contraindications, and labeling requirements for medications.
  • Collaborate with content strategists, editors, writers, and medical experts to ensure consistency and credibility across all materials.
  • Provide clear, respectful, and constructive feedback to writers to promote their professional development while upholding content quality.
  • Help develop and refine internal guidelines for pharmaceutical content review and compliance.
  • Understand and respect the advisory nature of the reviewer role, recognizing that final content decisions are made at the company's discretion.

Program Development

  • Provide expert insight from the pharmaceutical industry as needed across teams, for example offering oversight on pharmacy catalogs or regulatory context for product and design consideration.
  • Contribute as needed to the development of operations processes, creating best practices in escalations, case reviews and enhancing the Vetster Practice Standards.

Qualifications of Consultant
  • 5+ years of experience in pharmacology, veterinary pharmacy, regulatory review, medical writing, or a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of veterinary prescription drug regulations and labeling standards in the US and Canada at both the federal and state levels including the requirements under Lizzie’s Law and Buoy’s Law.
  • Fluency in pharmacological and medical terminology, with an ability to translate complex information into clear, accurate, consumer-friendly language.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to give positive, growth-oriented feedback.

Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and collaborative editing tools is an asset.
