Job summary

Carefor is Eastern Ontario’s largest home care and community support services not-for-profit, employing over 1,200 staff across Eastern Counties, Ottawa, and Pembroke-Renfrew County.

The Personal/Home Support Worker provides in-home personal support within Carefor policies, collaborating with the health care team to ensure comfort and well-being for clients in a supportive setting.

Qualifications

• Ontario PSW certificate or NAC, or foreign-trained BScN / nursing student.
• Clear vulnerable sector check (within 6 months).
• Negative tuberculosis test.
• Household management experience.
• Experience with elderly/vulnerable clients.
• Good communication in English (written and verbal).
• Bilingualism (EN/FR) is an asset.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to adapt to diverse backgrounds and abilities.
• Previous housekeeping experience is an asset.
• Experience with Palliative Care is an asset.
• First Aid CPR is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Assist in activities of daily living including eating, dressing, transferring, grooming, and bathing.
• Provide laundering of clothes and linens.
• Provide light cleaning.
• Provide respite care.
• Provide light meal preparation.
• Provide cognitive, social, and compassionate support.
• Document reports for clients on their plan of care and any changes in the behaviour of daily routines.
• Other related duties and tasks as assigned by the Supervisor in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety legislation, regulations, and Carefor policies and procedures.

Overview

The Personal/Home Support Worker provides personal support services in the hospice with the framework of Carefor policies, procedures, standards and quality & risk management. Collaborates with all members of the health care team to meet the needs of clients to attain an optimal level of comfort and well being.

• Ontario Certified Personal Support Worker Certificate and/or National Association of Career Colleges (NAC) Certificate, or, Foreign Trained BScN, BScN Nursing Student, or second year RPN student.
• Clear vulnerable Sector check (obtained within previous six months)
• Negative tuberculosis test
• Household management experience
• Experience working with elderly/vulnerable sector
• Good communication in English, both written and verbal
• Bilingualism is an asset (English and French)
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to adjust to working with people of different backgrounds and abilities.
• Previous housekeeping experience is an asset
• Experience with Palliative Care is considered an asset
• First Aid CPR is considered an asset
