Job summary

VON Canada is seeking a Personal Support Worker to deliver person-centred home care and support daily living in clients’ homes. You will travel between client visits, helping maintain comfort and independence while implementing care plans.

Applicants must have PSW/DSW certification, a valid driver’s license with a personal vehicle, and current First Aid/CPR. A satisfactory criminal record check and PPE compliance are required. This is a part-time, 0.8 FTE role with evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Certification as Personal Support Worker (PSW) or Developmental Services Worker (DSW).
• Nursing students who completed first year of RPN or BScN or internationally educated nurses may apply.
• Current Standard First Aid Certificate or CPR Level C.
• Owns a personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license with proof of vehicle insurance.
• Satisfactory Criminal Records Check.
• Ability to wear PPE.

Responsibilities

• Provide care to clients in their homes.
• Help develop the client care plan.
• Assist with personal care (bathing, grooming, dressing).
• Aid mobility and transfers for safety and comfort.
• Plan and prepare nutritious meals and perform light housekeeping.
• Offer respite care to families.
• Monitor and maintain a safe home environment.
• Collaborate with healthcare teams.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for:

• Personal Support Worker or Developmental Services Worker certification
• Nursing students who have completed first year of RPN or BScN or internationally educated nurses are eligible to apply
• Must have a current Standard First Aid Certificate or CPR level C Certificate, if applicable to the work being performed
• Must enjoy driving, have a personal vehicle and possess both a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance
• A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check
• Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Working conditions and physical demands:

This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
