Job summary

Acclaim Health is seeking casual Personal Support Workers for Patty’s Place in Oakville to provide homemaking, personal care and daily living assistance within a respite setting. The role offers guaranteed hours, paid orientation, and opportunities for professional growth.

Shifts include mornings, evenings and overnights on an as-needed basis. Applicants must hold a PSW certificate, be registered in the Ontario PSW Registry, and meet the listed certifications.

Qualifications

• PSW certificate and registration with the Ontario PSW Registry.
• Medication Administration, Food Handling, Gentle Persuasive Approaches, CPR-Basic Rescuer provided.
• 1–2 years of gerontology experience and knowledge of dementia.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

• Provides homemaking and personal support to residents in a shared care facility.
• Delivers personal care and activities of daily living.
• Performs delegated tasks under Care Manager supervision.
• Assists with meal preparation and feeding.
• Supports residents with therapeutic activities during overnight stays.
• Notifies Respite Coordinator of changes in client condition.

Acclaim Health is pleased to announce an opening for two (2) Casual Personal Support Worker position at Patty’s Place. Work shifts can be Mornings (7:00am – 12:30pm/12:00pm), Evenings (6:00pm – 11:30pm/11:00pm), or Overnights (7:30pm – 7:30am) on an as-needed basis. As a casual employee, you are required to work a minimum of five (5) shifts per month, including at least two (2) weekend shifts.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

• Pay: $22.29- $23.39 per hour.
• This position is for an existing vacancy.
• We do not use AI to screen, assess, or select applicants.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

• Provides homemaking and personal support services to individuals in shared care facility.
• Provides personal care and activities of daily living to clients
• Performs delegated tasks as directed and trained by a Care Manager, Health Services
• Assists with meal preparation and feeding as required.
• Assists/engages in therapeutic recreation and activities as appropriate during the client’s stay in the overnight service area
• Communicates changes in client condition or other complex situations to the Respite Coordinator
• Documents information pertinent to the client’s stay in overnight respite service.
• Effectively utilizes recognized GPA principles, communication and behaviour management strategies for working with persons with dementia
• Works in a manner that ensures client safety

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Personal Support Worker Certificate
• Registered on the Ontario PSW Registry
• Medication Administration course (will be provided)
• Food Handling Certification (will be provided)
• Certification in Gentle Persuasive Approaches in Dementia Care (will be provided)
• Certification in Basic First aid including certification in CPR-Basic Rescuer.
• 1 to 2 years of experience working in gerontology and working with cognitively impaired persons
• Understanding and knowledge of dementia and age-related experiences.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
