Wage Range: $31.89 per hour (start rate is non-negotiable)
Hours: 30 hrs per pay period
Shifts: 8/12hr rotating days/evenings/nights (subject to change)
Status: Temporary Part-Time (up to one year with possible extension)

Position Summary
The Personal Support Worker (PSW) is a member of the inter-professional care team, expected to maintain a collaborative and active working relationship with team members in patient care.

Duties

1. Assist patients with activities of daily living: feeding, lifts and transfers, bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, and toileting.
2. Perform tasks delegated by an RN or RPN, in compliance with RHPA, with appropriate education and training. Oversight by RNs and RPNs is required for delegated tasks, including procedures involving insertion of instruments or actions under the dermis.
3. Communicate and demonstrate basic information according to a patient’s pre-established Plan of Care.
4. Ensure a safe environment by reporting unsafe conditions and patient behavioral, physical, or cognitive changes. Report safety concerns to an RN, RPN, or other regulated health provider, following hospital policies.
5. Complete and maintain patient records and progress notes as per hospital policy.

Qualifications

1. Current registration with the Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA).
2. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certificate.
3. Behavioral management training (e.g., PIECES, U-First, CPI) is an asset.
4. Ability to handle daily physical exertion (standing, walking, reaching) on an occasional to frequent basis.
5. Experience in acute care and/or rehab is an asset.
6. Excellent computer skills.
7. Good attendance record.
