Description
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 88-year-old gentleman living in independent living at a retirement home in Barrie. He has been diagnosed with early-stage dementia that is slowly progressing. While he still recognizes family members and has maintained much of his independence, we're starting to notice some decline in personal care routines. He uses a walker or wheelchair for mobility and has a catheter (the retirement home handles daily bag changes, and Bayshore manages monthly catheter changes). The home also administers his medications, so those tasks are covered.
The ideal caregiver will make him feel comfortable and respected while providing the support he needs. We value someone who is calm and patient, brings positive energy to each visit, and can work independently while taking initiative when needed. Strong communication with the family is essential, as is reliability and consistency. Experience with mobility aids (walkers/wheelchairs), personal care, and memory support is important. The caregiver should respect his independence while ensuring his safety and well-being. Comfort working in a retirement home setting and English fluency are required.
We're looking for someone to visit once or twice per week, ideally on Tuesday/Thursday or Wednesday/Thursday. Each visit would be approximately 2-3 hours. The family is hoping to start as soon as the right caregiver is found and is open to building a long-term relationship with someone who is a good fit.
