What You’ll Do:

The Personal Lines Property & Casualty Underwriting Supervisor is responsible for supporting the leadership on underwriting, risk analysis and accurate premium calculations in alignment with the company’s risk appetite. The successful candidate will work closely with broker partners to provide excellent service and collaborate with Branch colleagues on post-loss underwriting reviews and claims service philosophies. The Personal Lines Property & Casualty Underwriting Supervisor leads a team and supports effective change within their team. The individual must model behaviours which are consistent with company values and strategic initiatives.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Supporting leadership on Home and Auto Personal Lines Underwriting Teams in the Branch (in-office, remote and hybrid).
  2. Championing training, coaching and change management for new hires and existing team members.
  3. Supporting collaborations with Head Office and other branches on underwriting products, risk appetite and pricing.
  4. Underwriting in alignment with company policies, procedures, service standards, applicable laws and regulations.
  5. Researching and determining appropriate rates, applying discounts / surcharges and accurately calculating premiums.
  6. Requesting inspections in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  7. Preparing related correspondences and maintaining supporting documentation as required.
  8. Participating in post-loss underwriting reviews and reviews on claim files referred.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum of seven years experience with personal lines underwriting or related experience.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  3. Consistency of applying accuracy, thoroughness and attention to detail approaches.
  4. Ability to work independently and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment is required.
  5. Adaptable mind-set is required.
  6. Ability to train and mentor team members.
  7. A continuous improvement mindset is preferred.
  8. CIP designation is required (or equivalency).
  9. CRM or FCIP designation is preferred.
  10. Bachelor’s Degree or post-secondary certificate is required (or an equivalent of industry experience)
