Job summary

Ellement Consulting Group in Ottawa is seeking a Pension Analyst to join the administration team delivering high-quality pension administration services across clients. You will manage member transactions, maintain accurate records, and support regulatory reporting with attention to detail and strong analytical skills.

The role requires autonomy and collaboration within a team, with an emphasis on accuracy and timely customer service for pension plans. On-site position based in our Ottawa office.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication with clients and stakeholders.
  • Pension benefits administration experience is an asset; two years preferred.
  • English/French bilingualism is an asset.
  • Criminal background check is required.

Responsibilities

  • Process events such as retirement, termination, death, and other plan changes.
  • Reconcile monthly and interim payments to pensioners and beneficiaries.
  • Maintain and update client databases accurately and timely.
  • Quality control of year-end data input and AIR filings.
  • Calculate PA, PAR, and PSPA adjustments as applicable.
  • File AIR and regulatory forms with the appropriate bodies.
  • Interpret pension plan provisions and applicable legislation.
  • Respond to client inquiries about data and administration.
  • Develop solutions and improve processes for plan issues.
  • Coordinate new business implementation with account teams.
  • Perform other tasks to support team objectives.

Position Summary

As a Pension Analyst, you will be a key member of an administration team that delivers high-quality pension administration services to multiple clients while ensuring outstanding and timely customer service. You will be responsible for administering member transactions, maintaining accurate records, and supporting regulatory and client reporting requirements. A Pension Analyst must have strong analytical and organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team.

Location

This is a full-time, on-site position based in our Ottawa office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process cases for events such as retirement, termination of employment, death, relationship breakdown, etc.
  • Reconcile monthly and interim payments to pensioners and beneficiaries.
  • Accurately maintain and update client databases on a regular basis
  • Quality control of year-end data input and verification of program output, including Annual Benefit Statements
  • Calculate pension adjustments (PA), pension adjustment reversals (PAR), and past service pension adjustments (PSPA)
  • File the Annual Information Return (AIR) and other regulatory forms with the applicable legislating body
  • Interpret and apply the provisions of the pension plans and various applicable provincial and federal legislation
  • Respond to inquiries from clients and plan members regarding data, and administration
  • Develop and present solutions and improved processes for various plan issues to consultants and internal partners
  • Coordinate new business implementation with account management and implementation teams
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to assist in the overall team effort
Education
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or another quantitative discipline.
  • Successful completion of one or more Society of Actuaries (SOA) exams is considered a strong asset.
  • Previous actuarial internship, co-op, or pension experience is an asset, but not required.
  • Candidates with a post-secondary diploma in business administration or a related field, combined with relevant pension administration experience, will also be considered.
  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation is considered an asset.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Understanding of group pension and benefits plan designs, or the ability to quickly learn complex pension concepts.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Previous pension benefits administration experience is considered an asset. Candidates with approximately two years of experience may be given preference.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.
  • Ability to respond effectively to time-sensitive situations and changing priorities.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
