Job summary

IWK Health in Halifax is seeking a Recreation Therapist to join the Rehabilitation Services team, supporting children, youth and families in ambulatory and community settings to develop leisure skills for independent participation.

The role involves assessing needs, setting goals with families, designing interventions, and documenting plans while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. A Baccalaureate in Therapeutic Recreation and NCTRC certification are required.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree of Science in Therapeutic Recreation or Bachelor of Recreation with a specialization in Therapeutic Recreation.
• Certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist by the NCTRC is required.
• Minimum two (2) years of experience as a recreation therapist, pediatric rehab preferred.
• Heart and Stroke Foundation BLS within last 12 months or renewal required.
• Valid Class 5 Nova Scotia driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Assess a child’s recreational and leisure needs and set goals with the child and family.
• Design and implement appropriate interventions and plans; document the plan.
• Collaborate with IWK care teams, practice leaders, and community partners; participate in team meetings.
