Job summary

Nova Scotia Health in Dartmouth General Hospital seeks a Therapeutic Assistant to support patients and families within a recreation therapy framework, contributing to individualized treatment plans and interprofessional collaboration.

The role requires a two-year recreation program diploma, CPR certification, and strong interpersonal skills. French is a plus. Permanent full-time position with benefits and pension options.

Qualifications

• Diploma from a two year Recreation or Therapeutic Recreation Program.
• Current CPR certification required.
• First Aid course (St. John Ambulance) preferred.
• NVCI certification is an asset.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of leisure/recreation to support patient care plans.
• Understanding of multidisciplinary treatment teams in acute care.
• Knowledge of patient populations in acute care with cognitive/responsive behaviors.
• Ability to work in a high pace acute care environment.
• French language skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support patients, families and the interprofessional team within a recreation therapy framework.
• Assist in carrying out individual treatment plans and communicating patient-specific information to the team.
• Collaborate with the treatment team to maximize patient engagement and outcomes.
