About the Role - The Payroll Supervisor works within the Corporate Services team and provides review and oversight of the payroll and benefit functions of the company to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements. The Payroll Supervisor will help lead the implementation and management of the new Human Capital Management (HCM) system and will continuously look for ways to automate and enhance efficiency in the payroll function.
Responsibilities -
- Payroll and Benefits Oversight
- Oversee the daily operational activities of payroll and benefits for all corporate entities with various payroll cycles (bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly).
- Review and approve payroll, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance with relevant policies and regulations
- Manage annual payroll budgeting and variance analysis for all entities
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries with clear and concise explanations in a timely manner
- Collaborate with various teams to conduct periodic internal audits to validate payroll and HR data integrity and resolve discrepancies
- Oversee any external payroll audits including generating any payroll reports required
- Hold ownership of compliance with legal and regulatory requirements relating to payroll (collective agreements, BC Employment Standards Act, etc)
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge and stay up to date with changes in payroll and benefit regulations and best practices.
- Develop payroll system policies, procedures and internal controls to safeguard payroll data and mitigate risks
- Collaborate with the HR team to ensure accurate employee records including new hires, terminations, compensation and employment status changes.
- Assist the Director, Human Resources and Administration on benefits management programs including administrating any corporate benefit program and collaborating with benefit providers to resolve any issues for employees
- Prepare regular and ad-hoc payroll analysis and reports
- Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement and automation in payroll functions
- Lead or contribute to projects aimed at enhancing payroll efficiency and accuracy
- Technology and Systems Management
- Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to facilitate the successful implementation of an HCM system including any integration applications (expense reimbursements, benefits integration, learning management system (LMS), etc)
- Manage and oversee system testing, ensuring payroll functionalities align with organizational requirements
- Utilize and optimize payroll software and systems to streamline and create efficient processes
- Troubleshoot any payroll system issues to ensure minimal disruption
Qualifications -
- Degree or diploma in a related field, with a preference for a commerce or human resources major.
- Minimum 3 years of full-cycle Canadian payroll
- Canadian Payroll Association certification of Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM)
- Experience with various payroll, HRIS or HCM systems
- Experience with transitioning and/or implementing payroll, HRIS or HCM systems an asset
- Intermediate computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word)
- In-depth knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws and compliance requirements
- An established track record of excellent customer service and teamwork
- Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to complete work in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to use excel and HCM systems to provide accurate and reliable metrics, analysis and reports
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
- Detail oriented with exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to present and communicate ideas and concepts at all levels of an organization and to different audiences
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal in the English language
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Positive self-starter, self-motivated, hands-on mentality with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
Pay range and compensation package - 95-110K depending on experience level and qualifications, Hybrid working environment, 3 weeks vacation, extended healthcare and RRSP
