Qualifications

  • 10 years of relevant experience in payroll.
  • DEC in Accounting or Business Administration.
  • NPI and/or APA certification.
  • Proficient in Excel and Power Query.
  • Experience with Canadian and U.S. payroll laws.

Responsibilities

  • Process North American payroll on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Manage follow-ups and controls for life events (hires, changes, leaves, terminations).
  • Produce reports on pension plans and employee share purchase plans.
  • Issue Records of Employment and process special payments.
  • Participate in annual payroll activities (bonuses, vacation cash-outs, T4s/RL-1, CNESST declarations).
  • Complete forms for government agencies and assist with audits.
  • Support complex inquiries and escalate with stakeholders.
  • Contribute to payroll-related projects and present to North American employees.

As a Payroll Specialist, you will play a key role in the delivery of North American payroll for more than 10,000 employees across several subsidiaries of iA Financial Group, while ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable Canadian and U.S. legislation.

What You Will Accomplish With Us
  • Process North American payroll on a bi-weekly basis in collaboration with the payroll team.
  • Manage follow-ups and controls related to employee life events, including hires, compensation changes, leaves of absence and terminations.
  • Produce various reports related to pension plans and employee share purchase plans.
  • Issue Records of Employment and process special payments.
  • Participate in annual payroll activities, including bonuses, vacation cash-outs, tax slip production (T4, T4A and RL-1) and CNESST salary declarations.
  • Complete required forms for various government agencies and provide information required for annual audits.
  • Act as a resource person in supporting complex inquiries from the payroll team and the Employee Contact Centre, while managing escalations with stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, participate in payroll-related projects and act as a spokesperson during presentations delivered to North American employees.
What Could Help You Succeed in This Role
  • Is recognized for their expertise in North American payroll and their strong knowledge of the Workday system.
  • Stands out through their proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel required and Power Query considered an asset.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Is recognized for their ability to manage high-volume workloads and multiple priorities.
  • Has 10 years of relevant experience as well as a college diploma (DEC) in Accounting or Business Administration.
  • Holds a National Payroll Institute (NPI) and/or APA certification.
  • Demonstrates a strong interest in new technologies, artificial intelligence and continuous process improvement.
  • Is comfortable speaking in front of large groups.
  • Intermediate-level English language proficiency is required, as the incumbent will be expected to participate in meetings conducted exclusively in English with unilingual English-speaking employees and business partners located in the United States on a daily basis.
