Job summary

Maersk in Canada is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join the payroll team. The role focuses on accurate and timely end-to-end bi-weekly payroll processing, ensuring compliance with company policies and Canadian employment standards.

The successful candidate will bring at least 3 years of payroll processing experience, ADP proficiency, and strong attention to detail to support HR, Operations, and Finance in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict payroll deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Process end-to-end bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time.
  • Review, validate, and reconcile employee time records and payroll data.
  • Calculate and process overtime, statutory holiday pay, PTO, retroactive adjustments, and other payroll transactions.
  • Process payroll changes including new hires, terminations, and employee updates.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Respond to employee payroll-related inquiries promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and supporting documentation.
  • Support payroll reconciliations, reporting, audits, and year-end activities.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our payroll team. This role is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of employee payroll while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable legislation.

The successful candidate will have strong payroll processing experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process end-to-end bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time.
  • Review, validate, and reconcile employee time records and payroll data.
  • Calculate and process overtime, statutory holiday pay, paid time off, retroactive adjustments, and other payroll transactions.
  • Receive and process payroll changes, including new hires, terminations, and employee updates.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Respond to employee payroll-related inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and supporting documentation.
  • Support payroll reconciliations, reporting, audits, and year-end activities.
  • Collaborate with HR, Operations, and Finance to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist with payroll process improvements and documentation.
  • Support payroll administration for employees covered by collective bargaining agreements.
Qualifications

  • Experience using ADP payroll systems.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred
  • PCP designation or working towards certification.
  • Experience supporting unionized workforces or interpreting collective bargaining agreements.
  • Experience with payroll reconciliations and year-end processing.

Pay Range

$75,000.00 - $85,000.00*

  • The above stated pay range is the anticipated starting salary range for the position. The Company may adjust this range in light of prevailing market conditions and other factors such as location. The Company will work directly with the selected candidate(s) on the final starting salary in accordance with all applicable laws.
