The opportunity

As Payroll Manager, you’ll join our Finance team to support the functions that keep our organization running strong. You will ensure the efficient processing of semi-monthly and monthly payroll for over 7,000 salaried and hourly employees across Canada and oversee daily payroll operations. Your responsibilities include month-end reconciliations, coordinating reporting, and implementing new payroll protocols and systems. This role requires extensive experience in payroll operations due to its complexity.

Your key responsibilities
  1. Monitor compliance with payroll legislation and resolve payroll and tax-related issues.
  2. Manage daily activities, supervise 7 payroll staff, and conduct performance reviews.
  3. Act as a technical liaison with internal departments including HR, legal, finance, and IT.
  4. Identify and implement efficiency improvements, including testing new systems and procedures.
  5. Lead payroll projects and system upgrades to enhance processes.
  6. Configure payroll reports using Dayforce, create spreadsheets, and analyze payroll data.
  7. Document payroll processes for training and continuous improvement, and establish reporting metrics.
  8. Ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal controls.
  9. Review vendor control reports and maintain payroll access controls.
  10. Reconcile payroll liability accounts monthly and make necessary adjustments.
  11. Prepare taxable benefits quarterly and ensure timely submission of annual payroll returns.
  12. Coordinate with government agencies and assist with audits.
Minimum qualifications
  1. Over 10 years of payroll experience in a large professional services environment, including at least 5 years in a managerial role.
  2. Payroll CPM Certification required.
  3. Experience with payroll liabilities accounting and Payroll GL.
  4. Proficiency with Ceridian Dayforce, SAP SuccessFactors, and Employee Connect.
  5. Advanced skills in Excel and other IT tools.
  6. Knowledge of global payroll reporting, expatriate payroll, and government interactions (CRA, RQ, Service Canada).
  7. Experience with source deductions and payroll tax balancing.
