Job summary

Soletanche Bachy Canada Inc. is seeking a Payroll Administrator to support payroll for unionized and non-unionized employees across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Ontario. You will process payroll, handle T4s and ROEs, and ensure accuracy through audits and reporting.

Key Responsibilities of the Role
  • Assist with processing payroll for unionized and non-unionized hourly/salary employees across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Ontario, including support for 11 union groups (4 in Eastern Canada, 7 in Western Canada), ensuring compliance with provincial legislation and adherence to internal payroll procedures and controls.
  • Assist with end-to-end payroll processing, including T4s and Records of Employment (ROEs).
  • Perform audits of payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist with payroll-related reports using Excel and internal systems.
  • Accurately process payroll using the Payworks platform.
  • Maintain accurate and organized payroll records for data entry, calculations, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with work sites to ensure accurate time entry and resolve related issues; assist with time entry as needed.
  • Process employee changes and adjustments, ensuring appropriate authorization and adherence to deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with privacy standards in handling employee payroll information.
  • Update and maintain payroll records to reflect changes in employee status, including exemptions, job titles, departments, and divisions.
  • Track and manage employee data related to attendance, vacation, leaves of absence, and overtime.
  • Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees, finance departments, and government agencies.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing relevant payroll documentation and information.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies through thorough data analysis.
  • Assist with processing various remittances, including Workers' Compensation (WCB) and union dues.
  • Assist with preparing and processing monthly benefit remittances for group insurance and RRSP contributions, ensuring accuracy and timely submission to providers.

Qualifications – What Will Make You Successful
Education
  • Post-secondary education in Payroll Administration, Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Experience
  • 2+ years of full-cycle payroll experience, preferably in a multi-provincial environment.
  • Experience processing payroll for both hourly and salaried employees.
  • Experience administering unionized payroll and interpreting collective agreements is strongly preferred.
  • Experience preparing and processing year-end payroll activities, including T4s, T4As, Records of Employment (ROEs), and statutory remittances is preferred.
  • Experience working with payroll audits, reconciliations, and payroll-related reporting.
Technical Knowledge & Skills
  • Knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, employment standards, and statutory requirements across multiple provinces is an asset.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems; experience with Payworks is considered a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
  • Experience processing benefit and pension/RRSP remittances, union dues, and Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) remittances is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict payroll deadlines.
