Job summary

PetroChina Canada (PCC) is recruiting for a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join the Human Resources Team in Calgary. Reporting to the Director, HR & Communications, the Specialist handles full cycle payroll and benefits, maintains employee records, processes payroll transactions, administers enrolments, and prepares annual T4s and tax reports.

Qualifications

  • Experience administering payroll and benefits programs.
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal employment legislation.
  • Strong data accuracy, privacy and confidentiality.
  • Ability to handle inquiries and resolve payroll issues promptly.

Responsibilities

  • Administer payroll and benefits in accordance with PCC policies.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant employment laws and changes to payroll/benefits.
  • Act as subject matter expert for payroll and benefit inquiries.
  • Maintain employee payroll and benefit data including new hires, terminations, changes.
  • Prepare annual T4s and other tax reports; coordinate with Tax Manager.

PetroChina Canada is recruiting for a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join the Human Resources Team in Calgary.

Reporting to the Director, HR & Communications, the Payroll & Benefits Specialist is responsible for the full cycle administration of payroll and benefitsprograms, including maintaining employee records, processing payrolltransactions, administering benefit enrolments, and preparing annual T4s andother tax reports. The role ensures the accuracy, security and confidentialityof employee information and acts as the primary point of contact for payrolland benefits inquiries, providing timely and professional support to employees.

Accountabilities
  • Administerpayroll and benefits in accordance with labour standards, privacy legislationand with PCC’s Human Resources policies and procedures
  • Ensurecompliance with relevant federal and provincial employment legislation and managechanges required as they relate to payroll and benefits
  • Act assubject matter expert for payroll and benefit related inquiries, providingguidance to employees, managers, and HR in a timely, professional, andconfidential manner
  • Supportemployee time-writing functions
  • Maintaincurrent, easy to locate (FAQ) information and forms for pay and benefits on thecompany intranet
  • Communicationwith employees regarding payroll or benefit matters and arranging companywideeducation offerings
  • Systemupdates and projects as required
  • Maintainaccurate employee payroll and employment data, including new hires,terminations, transfers, compensation changes, schedules, banking details, taxinformation, and employee record updates
  • Maintainemployee data in the corporate benefit plan/platform
  • Ensure timely andaccurate processing of payroll
  • Report,reconcile, and administer taxable benefits, gross-ups, and allowances forexpatriate employees in conjunction with Tax Manager
  • Coordinatewith third-party institutions
  • Validateemployee hours, overtime, premiums, vacation pay, statutory holiday pay,deductions, taxable benefits, and other earnings before payroll submission
  • Reviewpayroll registers, investigate discrepancies, and process payroll adjustments,reversals, corrections, and off-cycle items as required
  • Any otherspecial reports for payroll information as required
  • Ensuresystem integrity by running regular reports and audits
  • Coordinateand test system modifications/enhancements (e.g., amended organizationstructure changes, new payroll earnings/codes, time reporting and costing,etc.)
  • Maintainelectronic personnel files and ensure information is up to date
  • Reviewrelevant metrics and trends to identify areas for improvement (e.g., accuracyof data, system enhancements, education seminars for employees/managers, etc.)
  • Administer employee benefitsprocesses, including all enrolments, terminations, coverage changes, employeeupdates, benefits invoice administration, and employee benefits coveragesupport
  • Advise employees of benefiteligibility and claims process
  • Administration of short andlong-term disability leaves, WCB claims, and modified work programs, including liaisingthird-party and employees
