Job summary

Waterloo Catholic District School Board is seeking a Payroll Administrator to manage end-to-end payroll processes for staff across our schools. The role requires strong problem-solving, team collaboration, and adherence to payroll regulations and pension plan rules.

The ideal candidate will have a 2-year college diploma, Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification (or in progress), and at least two years of payroll experience in a computerized environment.

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board with a total student population of 38,000, provides services to students in 52 schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12) across the Waterloo Region.

General Description of Duties:

Payroll Administrators process payments to employees based on information received by Human Resource Services. The ideal candidate should be able to problem solve, work as a member of an interdependent team, and provide constructive feedback on processes and systems used by the department.

  • Computerized calculation of pay, deductions and contributions.
  • Calculation of adjustments for paid and unpaid absences.
  • Verify, edit and transmit on-line production reports.
  • Timely remittance of statutory and non-statutory deductions.
  • Familiarity with pension plans.
  • Preparation and verification of all journal entries and cheque requests.
  • Supporting duties i.e., responding to employee inquiries and ad hoc reports.
  • Effectively communicate with government agencies, other departments and employees.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Two-year college diploma in business or a related discipline.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification (National Payroll Institute), or in progress.
  • Minimum of two years payroll experience in a computerized payroll environment.
  • Strong excel skills.
  • Ability to work in an environment with tight deadlines/turnaround times.
  • Knowledge and ability in a variety of software applications related to payroll.
  • Comprehensive and current knowledge of applicable government legislation and the ability to implement collective agreements, pension plans and all payroll related regulations.
  • Strong communication and analytical ability with excellent interpersonal and problem - solving skills.
  • Demonstrated sound decision-making skills involving the use of considerable ingenuity, initiative, judgement and resourcefulness.
  • Knowledge of the Canada Revenue Agency, Service Canada, Employment Standards Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and Employer Health Tax Regulations.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills, multi-tasking and ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.

Hourly Rate: $35.93 to $37.76 per hour (Plus a current Market Adjustment Allowance of $8,000 /year)

Hours of Work: Full-time, 35 hours per week,Work schedule determined by the Supervisor

Location: Corporate Services at the Catholic Education Centre, Kitchener, ON

Work Arrangement: This is fully on-site position, with standard workdays from Monday to Friday.
