Job summary

The incumbent will process multiple payrolls, prepare ROEs, update payroll data, and respond to payroll inquiries while liaising with internal and external stakeholders.

Required: at least two years of full‑cycle payroll experience, college program in business administration, PCP with NPI, strong knowledge of payroll

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of full-cycle payroll experience.
  • College program in business administration preferred.
  • National Payroll Institute PCP designation preferred.
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation including CRA, ESA, WSIB.
  • Experience in unionized or public sector environments valued.
  • Strong Excel/Office applications skills.

Description

Under the direction of the Manager, Payroll Services, the Payroll Administrator works independently to perform all tasks related to processing multiple payrolls. This involves preparing and processing all payroll transactions using computerized software, as well as calculating and processing specialized payments where applicable. Reconciliation and preparation of manual payments as required, preparation of records of employment and updating payroll information regularly. The Payroll Administrator is also responsible for liaising with internal and external stakeholders, as well as responding to payroll-related inquiries in an effective and timely manner. This position is also responsible for assisting in the administration of OMERS and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, as it relates to payroll. The Payroll Administrator is expected to remain current on legislative and collective agreement changes for their respective groups, and for the processing, balancing, and auditing practices per department guidelines. The successful candidate will possess the ability to solve problems, be detail-oriented, organized, and meet strict deadlines. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who takes ownership of their assigned responsibilities, communicates proactively, and works effectively both independently and as part of a team. Other duties will be assigned as required.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ full - cycle payroll experience
  • Minimum two (2) year college program in business administration preferred
  • National Payroll Institute (NPI) Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all payroll legislative requirements including, Canada Revenue Agency, Service Canada, Employment Standards Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and Employer Health Tax Regulations
  • Assist with year - end related activities
  • Experience in a unionized and educational or public sector environment is considered an asset
  • Excellent working knowledge of computerized payroll systems and computer applications such as Microsoft Excel/Access/Word/Windows and other software
  • Experience with iSYS Works and iSYS Web Payroll System is a definite asset
  • Knowledge of OMERS and/or Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan considered a definite asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Self-starter with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize competing/changing demands, maintain a high attention to detail, and meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to work successfully in a team atmosphere and maturity in dealing with both sensitive and confidential matters

Location: Father Kennedy Catholic Education Center 90 Mulberry Street, Hamilton, ON

Salary: Professional Administrative Support Staff (PASS 4) ($64,842 - $82,161)
