Alberta Transportation awarded Aecon a $595 million contract for the Deerfoot Trail Improvements project in Calgary, Alberta. Construction includes new bridges, additional lanes, and ramp improvements, scheduled for completion by fall 2027.

The Payroll Administrator is responsible for accurate, timely entry of unionized craft employee timesheets and payroll administration. This in-office, contract position ends December 2025, based in Calgary, AB.

Payroll Responsibilities:

  • Understanding union agreements, wage classifications, benefits, and allowances.
  • Administering electronic timecard software (Field Data Capture).
  • Training staff on FDC and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Coordinating timecard approvals and corrections.
  • Submitting daily timecards to HCM Payroll.
  • Validating pay reports and crosschecking hours, premiums, and allowances.
  • Assisting with payroll validation and distributing electronic paystubs.
  • Providing details for WorkSafeAB submissions and maintaining cost tracking spreadsheets.
  • Generating labor and productivity reports with project controls.
  • Managing employee request and termination forms with HR and Payroll teams.
  • Advising on collective agreement payroll practices and shift schedules.
  • Resolving discrepancies and supporting audits.
  • Collaborating with HR, Labour Relations, and Finance teams.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • 2-3 years’ payroll experience handling large headcounts or equivalent.
  • Experience with unions, collective agreements, and relevant legislation.
  • Post-secondary education and construction payroll experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; SAP ERP and Field Data Capture are assets.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information professionally.

The hourly rate is $25.00 - $28.00 based on a 40-hour week.
