Job summary

FortisBC in Canada is seeking a Payments & Collections Manager to lead a team responsible for payment processing, collections, and dispute resolution, ensuring a seamless customer experience and regulatory compliance.

You will drive continuous improvement, optimize processes, coach managers, and collaborate across the organization to deliver customer-centric solutions aligned with safety, collaboration, respect, and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or related field plus 5 years’ recent leadership experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, coaching, performance management, workforce planning, and ongoing support to management and unionized staff to meet operational and customer service objectives.
  • Optimize processes, implement best practices and technologies, strengthen cross-functional partnerships, and effectively manage escalated customer concerns to enhance service quality and satisfaction.
  • Oversee daily payment processing, collections, and accounts receivable activities to ensure accurate billing, strong cash flow, achievement of service levels, and minimization of bad debt.
  • Manage receivables, budgets, vendor performance, audits, and internal controls while resolving complex payment and collection issues to protect revenue and ensure regulatory compliance.

Position Overview

The Payments & Collections Manager leads a team responsible for payment processing, collections, and dispute resolution, ensuring operational excellence and a seamless customer experience. This role drives continuous improvement by implementing best practices, optimizing processes, and championing initiatives that enhance outcomes for both customers and employees. As a trusted leader and customer advocate, the Manager collaborates across the organization to deliver customer-centric solutions that reflect the company's values of safety, collaboration, respect, and innovation.

In this role, you will:
  • Provide leadership, coaching, performance management, workforce planning, and ongoing support to management and unionized staff to meet operational and customer service objectives.
  • Optimize processes, implement best practices and technologies, strengthen cross-functional partnerships, and effectively manage escalated customer concerns to enhance service quality and satisfaction.
  • Oversee daily payment processing, collections, and accounts receivable activities to ensure accurate billing, strong cash flow, achievement of service levels, and minimization of bad debt.
  • Manage receivables, budgets, vendor performance, audits, and internal controls while resolving complex payment and collection issues to protect revenue and ensure regulatory compliance.
What it takes:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or related field from an accredited post-secondary institution, plus 5 years’ recent, related experience working in a leadership capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
