Job summary

FortisBC is seeking a Contracts Supervisor for the AMI project within the Gas division. You will lead contract deployment for the AMI initiative, coordinating with internal teams and contractors to meet milestones and maintain compliance.

This long-term temporary role requires a Bachelor’s degree, 4+ years in contract or project management, and a proactive leadership style. Travel to contractor sites is required, with a flexible work option available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline with minimum four years of recent contract or project management experience.
  • Valid Class Canadian Driver's License.
  • PMP designation is desirable.
  • Experience in major projects and project delivery models is an asset.
  • Proficiency in contract and procurement work methods.
  • Strong project/program management and cost control skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and efficiency.
  • Analytical and decision-making abilities.
  • Knowledge of SAP, MS Office and Work Order Management Systems (Clevest).
  • Proactive, self‑starter able to lead independently.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and apply conflict resolution skills.

Responsibilities

  • Foster relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors, and vendors.
  • Manage meter deployment contractor relationships, ensuring adherence to project plans and policies.
  • Ensure timely delivery of contractual milestones, perform progress reviews, and address changes or risks.
  • Coordinate with technology, customer service, operations and finance to resolve issues.
  • Monitor contractor performance and plans.
  • Execute safety and quality assurance programs for contractors.

Position Overview

You’re ready to take on the challenge of working on our AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) Project where you will be part of a team building a more reliable natural gas system for our more than one million customers across British Columbia. The Gas AMI Project represents one of the largest Major Projects in FortisBC’s history as we upgrade all our gas meters to implement automated technologies that will improve the safety, resiliency, sustainability, and reliability of our natural gas system.

Elevate your career with FortisBC as a Contracts Supervisor, Meter Deployment on the AMI project! Reporting to the Contracts Manager, Meter Deployment AMI, this long-term temporary role will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful execution of contracts related to the project across our service territory. This dynamic position demands leadership, technical excellence, and a proactive attitude.

In this role, you will:
  • Lead the implementation of contracts showcasing technical prowess in Procurement and Contracts Management.
  • Foster effective relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors, and vendors, ensuring seamless collaboration.
  • Manage the relationship with meter deployment contractors, supporting adherence to project plan requirements and ensuring compliance with corporate policies, industry standards, and agreements.
  • Ensure timely delivery of contractual milestones, conducting progress reviews, managing contract changes, and addressing risks or issues.
  • Coordinate with technology, customer service, operations and finance teams to resolve execution issues.
  • Monitor and managet the performance and plans of contractors.
  • Execute contractor safety and quality assurance programs, providing constructive feedback and utilizing FortisBC's risk management system.
What it takes:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline, with a minimum of four (4) years of recent experience in contract or project management.
  • Valid Class Canadian Driver's License.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation desired.
  • Experience in major projects and project delivery models is an asset.
  • Proficiency in contract and procurement work methods.
  • Effective project/program management and cost control skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a focus on efficiency.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of SAP, MS Office systems, and Work Order Management Systems (i.e. Clevest)
  • Proactive, self-starter with the ability to lead independently.
  • Excellent verbal, electronic, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and apply conflict resolution skills.
Additional Information
  • This role requires regular travel and in-person visits to various contractor sites.

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
