Job summary

Thomas Cavanagh Construction Limited in Eastern Ontario is hiring for May 2026 on Mainline and Commercial/Residential paving crews. You will operate paving machines to lay asphalt, monitor material flow, and ensure quality and safety standards while meeting project deadlines.

The role requires 5 years of experience in paving, the ability to work in all weather, and strong communication with supervisors and teammates. A valid driver's license and safety training are essential.

  • Experience operating paving machines is preferred.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and as part of a team.

Overview:

Our Mainline and Commercial/Residential Paving Crews are hiring for May 2026. This individual is responsible for carrying out assigned tasks/responsibilities efficiently and effectively. They will meet quality standards and production targets set by the organization. They will follow established procedures, guidelines, and best practices. It is important that they maintain open and constructive communication with colleagues, supervisors, and other stakeholders. Finally, they will show punctuality and reliability in fulfilling work obligations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize paving machines to apply and distribute asphalt onto roadbeds, laneways, and parking lots.
  • Monitor the distribution of paving material during operation, adjusting machine settings or material flow as necessary.
  • Identify low spots or areas requiring additional material and communicate these to workers for prompt correction.
  • Operate paving machines in a manner that ensures smooth and even application of asphalt.
  • Adhere to specifications and project requirements for asphalt thickness and smoothness.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and inspections on paving machines to ensure proper functioning.
  • Collaborate with team members to coordinate paving activities and optimize efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers regarding machine operation and material distribution.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Continuously monitor machine performance and report any malfunctions or issues to supervisors.
  • Adhere to project schedules and deadlines, ensuring timely completion of paving tasks.
  • Follow company policies and procedures, including those related to safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and necessary training certification.
  • Adaptability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work effectively and safely as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Wage Range:

The hourly range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $35.00 and $45.00 per hour. However, the range offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
