Job summary

The Miller Group is seeking a Patrol Supervisor to lead field maintenance operations on the Contractor Directed Maintenance Contract (CDMC) for Ontario. You will oversee safety, manage subcontractors, and guide direct reports while prioritizing tasks and maintaining cost controls.

The role requires highway maintenance experience, strong leadership, OH&S knowledge, and valid licenses (G, and DZ preferred). Expect winter operations and emergency response responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Experience in highway/municipal maintenance or road construction is an asset.
  • Contract administration experience is considered an asset.
  • Prior experience leading a team.
  • OH&S legislations, MTO standards, and Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 knowledge is an asset.
  • Must obtain/maintain a valid Class G Driver’s License.
  • DZ license or willingness to obtain a DZ license.
  • Multitasking in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
  • MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) proficiency and smartphone apps.
  • Maintenance schedule with weekends/night shifts.
  • Ability to bend and lift to 50 lbs unassisted.

Responsibilities

  • Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants in compliance with Miller Health, Safety and Environment policies.
  • Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections.
  • Drive quality, efficiency, and productivity of the patrol.
  • Ensure work completed meets quality standards, and reports/logs are submitted.
  • Understand scope and sequencing of work, support patrollers to plan and prioritize the work.
  • Manage subcontractor performance and complete inspections of subcontractors.
  • Manage the performance of all direct reports.
  • Assist in hiring staff, provide training, and disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Monitor costs and identify ways to control costs.
  • Preparing and issuing requests for quotation (RFQ).
  • Perform maintenance duties on highway infrastructures under CDMC Performance Measures.
  • Assist with investigations and respond to inquiries from the public, external agencies, and liaise with the superintendent to resolve problems.
  • Maintain/clean equipment and conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Participate in winter works operations by covering shifts or operating snow removal equipment.
  • Respond to emergencies such as spills, accidents, and extreme weather.

Miller Maintenance proudly provides maintenance services on Maintenance Contracts for Ontario Ministry of Transportation throughout the province of Ontario. Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections
  • Drive quality, efficiency, and productivity of the patrol.
  • Ensure work completed meets quality standards, that preparation and submittal of required reports, documentation and logs are completed.
  • Understand the scope and sequencing of work, support patrollers to plan and prioritize the work.
  • Manage subcontractor performance and complete inspections of the sub-contractors.
  • Manage the performance of all direct reports.
  • Assists in hiring of staff, provides training, and disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Monitor costs, understand cost allocation across different performance requirements of the contract and identify ways to control costs.
  • Preparing and issuing requests for quotation (RFQ).
  • Perform maintenance duties on highway infrastructures, as outlined in the new Contractor Directed Maintenance Contract (CDMC) Performance Measures.
  • Assist with investigations and respond to inquiries from the general public, external agencies, and liaise with the superintendent to resolve problems.
  • Maintain/clean equipment and conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs, as required.
  • Participate in the winter works operations by filling in where needed during inclement. weather or by operating combination units and other snow removal equipment.
  • Respond to emergency situations such as spills, accidents, incidents, inclement weather or implementations of the emergency plan.
Qualifications
  • Experience in the highway/municipal maintenance and/or road construction industry is considered an asset.
  • Contract administration experience is considered an asset.
  • Prior experience leading a team.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the applicable OH&S legislations, MTO standards, and Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 traffic control is considered an asset.
  • Must obtain/maintain a valid Class G Driver’s License.
  • DZ Driver’s License or willingness to obtain a DZ license
  • Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.), as well as applications on a smart phone.
  • Ability to work the maintenance schedule which may include weekends and/or night shift.
  • Ability to bend and lift to 50 lbs unassisted.
Day in the life

As a Patrol Supervisor, you will work with the day-to-day field maintenance operations on all highway infrastructures within the Contractor Directed Maintenance Contract (CDMC). You will be instrumental in the patrol for deficiencies throughout the CDMC. A typical day for you involves leading safety meetings and conducting inspections to ensure compliance with HSE policies while managing subcontractor performance and overseeing direct reports. You will prioritize work tasks, monitor costs, and participate in maintenance activities, particularly in winter operations. Additionally, you respond to emergencies and public inquiries, all while maintaining a focus on quality, efficiency, and productivity.

Compensation Data

Salary: $70,000-$90,000
