Job summary

University of Guelph is seeking a Pathobiology Skills-based Lab Instructor-Technician in Guelph, ON. You will design, deliver, and evaluate lab-based instructional methods for DVM student training, develop SOPs, and coordinate logistics with faculty and external partners.

Reporting to the Department Chair, the role emphasizes safety, quality, and experiential learning, with a focus on microscopy, hematology, parasitology, and related analyses.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Pathobiology or related field required; PhD preferred.
• Experience in veterinary diagnostic or research lab settings.
• Up to 36 months of progressively responsible experience designing or delivering advanced laboratory-based instruction and managing external partnerships.
• Advanced scientific and laboratory judgment.
• Advanced communication, interpersonal, facilitation, and presentation skills.
• Strong program management, analytical, relationship-building, and record-keeping skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and support in-house training for Pathobiology laboratory components, including anatomic, clinical, and immunology labs.
• Develop and document lab protocols, SOPs, practicum manuals, and evaluation standards with faculty input.
• Deliver pre-lab, safety, equipment-specific, and small-group instructional sessions.
• Monitor student progress, assemble reports, record grades, and provide feedback.
• Liaise with external agencies, suppliers, and contacts to secure materials and expertise.
• Conduct risk assessments and ensure safety, biosafety, and regulatory compliance.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to students, staff, and faculty.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
