Job summary

The University of Guelph is seeking a Postmortem Laboratory Technician/CSR to support the postmortem suite, provide top-notch client service, and manage specimen accessioning and data-entry in LIMS. Responsibilities include handling animal carcasses, assisting with autopsies, and ensuring safety and clean operations in a high-volume setting.

Required is a 2-year college program (vet tech preferred) with veterinary terminology knowledge and strong data-entry skills.

Qualifications

• 2-year college program (veterinary technician preferred) or equivalent experience.
• Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology and farm animal husbandry.
• Ability to work with live animals and assist with euthanasia if required.
• Proven data-entry and computer skills, with experience in a lab setting.
• Experience with billing/invoicing and client payments is a plus.
• Understanding of WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety in a lab.

Responsibilities

• Receive specimen submissions and enter case histories into LIMS.
• Prepare, package, and ship samples to external labs as needed.
• Answer client inquiries via phone and email; act as liaison with internal departments.
• Assist pathologists with gross postmortem examinations and sample collection.
• Maintain postmortem room cleanliness and safety protocols.
• Handle billing, invoicing, and payment processing for clients.
• Ensure timely data entry and filing of case information.
