Job summary

Vancouver School Board is seeking a Permanent Supervision Aide to supervise students during recess and lunch at Secord Elementary. The role requires vigilance, safety enforcement, and calm conflict resolution in all weather conditions. The position is 2.5 hours daily, Monday through Friday, from 10:30 a.m.

to 1:00 p.m., September to June. Applicants should have experience with children, strong communication and conflict-resolution skills, and the ability to work indoors and outdoors.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children in large groups.
• Good communication skills.
• Excellent conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather.
• Ability to speak languages common to ESL students is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students during recess and lunch, indoors and outdoors, in all kinds of weather.
• Ensure student safety and that students comply with school rules.
• Intervene in potentially unsafe play situations and facilitate conflict resolutions between students.
• Required to supervise students between recess and lunch, ensuring appropriate behaviour and completion of teacher assigned work.
• Walking and standing for the duration of the shift, which is mostly outdoors.
• Circulate the school grounds, focus on your surroundings and remain alert at all times.
