Job summary

Family Dollar in Edmonton, Canada is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to support daily store operations, customer service, and team development. You will assist with merchandise flow, store safety, and employee training while maintaining a welcoming environment for customers and staff.

The role involves opening/closing procedures, following corporate directives, and ensuring displays and stock areas meet company standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred; ability to read, interpret, and explain operational directives is required
• Store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environment is preferred
• Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs and perform frequent movement and duties as listed
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and written skills are required
• Ability to work in a high-energy, team environment is required
• Exceptional customer service, organizational, and communication skills are required
• Strong problem solving and decision-making skills are required

Responsibilities

• Assist with store functions and day-to-day store activities
• Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address questions or concerns
• Help organize and transfer merchandise from delivery to stockroom to sales floor
• Perform opening and closing procedures as needed
• Process corporate directives and related store communications
• Maintain promotional displays and store fixtures
• Assist in ordering merchandise, processing damaged merchandise, payroll, scheduling, cash handling and risk management
• Maintain a well-stocked sales floor and organized stockroom to company standards
• Protect and secure all store assets, including cash
• Adhere to safety policies and ensure all associates follow procedures
• Support Store Manager in training and development of Store Associates
• Maintain a positive, safe, and respectful environment for customers and staff
• Ensure store cleanliness including bathrooms, floors, and trash removal
• Perform any other duties as assigned*
