Job summary

Great Canadian Entertainment in Halifax is seeking a Security Officer to uphold safety for guests, employees, and casino property. You will respond to emergencies, control access, greet guests, and support with cash handling, while delivering exceptional customer service in a dynamic casino environment.

Under direction of Security Supervisors and Managers, you will participate in fills, credits, drops, and key control, ensuring compliance with regulations and company culture focused on

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
  • Ability to be licensed by the Nova Scotia Alcohol and Gaming Division as a Security Officer.
  • Ability to successfully complete the Security Officer Training Course is required.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR is an asset; willingness to complete training if not certified.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service, interpersonal skills and professionalism.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods and possess basic math/reading skills.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors, documents and reports on violations, unsafe conditions, suspicious activity or persons.
  • Enforces restricted access by unauthorized persons.
  • Escorts cash/cash equivalents.
  • Transfers found property to Lost and Found.
  • Conducts regular patrols of the facility interior and exterior.
  • Escorts guests and team members as directed.
  • Performs identification checks and refers disputes to Security Supervisors.
  • Communicates effectively with other operational departments and builds relationships.
  • Ensures compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The Security Officer responds to emergency situations as necessary and takes steps to rectify problems while minimizing Casino liability. This position assists with fills, credits, drops and key control. As a Security Officer, he/she is responsible for controlling access to the Casino and greeting guests while providing exceptional customer service.


Above all else, must embrace and be aligned with Casino Nova Scotia’s culture and philosophy of providing outstanding entertainment experiences.


  • Monitors, documents and prepares statements and/or reports on violations, unsafe conditions, potential hazards, suspicious persons or a ctivities

  • Enforces restricted access by unauthorized persons

  • Escorts cash/cash equivalents

  • Tags and reports found property; transfers items to Lost and Found

  • Conducts regular patrols of the facility interior and exterior as directed

  • Observes transactions, pulls, fills, transfers, etc.

  • Escorts cash/cash equivalents

  • Tags and reports found property; transfers items to Lost and Found

  • Conducts regular patrols of the facility interior and exterior as directed

  • Escorts guests and team members as directed

  • Performs identification checks

  • Refers disputes to the Supervisor, Security

  • Performs crowd control as directed

  • Communicates effectively with all appropriate operational departments

  • Builds strong working relationships with guests and team members

  • Ensures compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulat ions

  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed


Education and Qualification


  • Embraces the Casino Nova Scotia culture and philosophy and has a playful, infectious and "all about the guest" attitude!

  • Minimum high school diploma (or equivalent) is required

  • Ability to be licensed by the Nova Scotia Alcohol and Gaming Division as a Security Officer

  • Ability to successfully complete the Security Officer Training Course is required

  • Satisfactory attendance is required

  • Certification in First Aid and CPR an asset (if not certified, must be willing to complete First Aid and CPR training)

  • Certification in Crisis Intervention an asset (if not certified, must be willing to complete Crisis Intervention training)

  • Must have a professional attitude, strong interpersonal skills and be a proven team player

  • Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time is required

  • Candidates will be assessed on math and reading skills


Work Environment Considerations


  • Regular casino/Racino environment, standing and walking for long periods of time, some elements of danger, some exposure to the elements, some exposure to noise, some exposure to verbal or physical abuse, non-traditional work hours
