Job summary

The Town of Whitby is seeking a Part-time Duty Patrol to support the Roads/Traffic team in inspecting municipal highways and reporting hazards. The role focuses on safety, minor repairs, and coordinating with operations to address deficiencies in accordance with the Minimum Maintenance Standards.

Applicants should have carpentry or cement-related training, OGRA Winter Maintenance training, and a valid G license. The position offers flexible hours with weekend shifts and a competitive hourly wage.

Qualifications

• Community college and/or trade school courses in carpentry, cement work or a related discipline.
• Three years directly related work experience with road patrolling and inspections.
• Winter Maintenance Operations training for patrollers through OGRA.
• Training in Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 and WHMIS.
• Current CPR Level A and Emergency First Aid certification.
• Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Valid Class G Driver’s Licence and Safe Driver eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Identify and report hazardous road conditions and deficiencies following Minimum Maintenance Standards.
• Secure and repair defects, including minor ploughing or sand/salt dispatching as needed.
• Provide general traffic control for stationary and moving road repair operations.
• Pick up litter and road debris; ensure safe equipment operation.
• Deliver excellent customer service to the public and agencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.
