St. Lawrence College is seeking an experienced and motivated Professor to join our Cornwall Campus, teaching Game Programming as part of the Game 103: Introduction to Gaming course.

Primary duties include designing engaging curriculum, delivering lectures and labs, and supporting diverse learners while fostering a global mindset. Remote teaching and LMS proficiency are required; start date February 1, 2027, with posted Oct 7, 2026 and closing Oct 15, 2026.

Qualifications

  • Education: A minimum of a 2-year diploma in computer science or game development.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in game development programming.
  • Teaching experience using a Learning Management System and virtual meeting technology system.
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level or experience in adult instruction techniques and practice using principles of andragogy and curriculum design experience will be required.
  • A demonstrated practice supporting a diversity of learners.
  • A global mindset, and intercultural knowledge and competence to teach in a global environment including international students is required.

St. Lawrence College is currently seeking qualified Professors on a part-time basis with experience and expertise as a Game Programmer.

We are seeking an individual experienced to teach in the following topic area:

GAME 103: Introduction to Gaming

Throughout this course, students are presented with an overview of the video gaming industry. Through lecture and lab activities students discover many of the concepts involved in gaming such as types of video games, the roles of members of a gaming team, the game development life cycle and the technical components required to produce high quality video games. Other topics examined are the impact of playing video games on one's life, legal and ethical considerations, and professional opportunities that are available in the gaming industry.

The focus of this course is on the theory and practical skills of game programming. Topics include:

  • Game Design Components (rules, goals, genres)
  • Game Design Documents
  • High level overview of Game Engine Components
  • Industry Roles & Responsibilities in Game Development Teams

This position will be primarily located at the Cornwall Campus; however, Professors must be willing to teach, as needed, at our Campuses in Kingston, Brockville or Cornwall. Candidates must be available to teach Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm.

The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION / DESIGNATION:

  • Education: A minimum of a 2-year diploma in computer science or game development.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in game development programming.
  • Industry Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of current game development.
  • Teaching experience using a Learning Management System and virtual meeting technology system.
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level or experience in adult instructions techniques and practice using principles of andragogy and curriculum design experience will be required.
  • A demonstrated practice supporting a diversity of learners.
  • Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research will be an asset.
  • A proven track record of life-long learning.
  • A demonstrated commitment to putting "students' first".
  • Candidates are requested to list all St. Lawrence College teacher training or equivalent they possess on their resume.
  • A global mindset, and intercultural knowledge and competence to teach in a global environment including international students is required.
  • An understanding of the Ontario college system is preferred.

Candidates who do not meet the education specified but who possess a relevant and acceptable combination of education, training, and a depth of industry experience may be considered.

Candidates seeking faculty positions with the College will be required to demonstrate the ability to design, facilitate and assess learning in accordance with adult learning principles and universal design in learning (UDL). An ongoing commitment to professional learning will be expected.

Successful candidates are expected to have their own computer, reliable internet connection, and the ability to teach remotely. The use of virtual meetings through video conferencing software will be required in this role. Professors are also expected to possess or develop proficiency in the use of a Learning Management Software (LMS) to a degree that meets academic standards.

All Professors will be provided with support by the School of Contemporary Teaching and Learning in their onboarding and orientation to teach at St. Lawrence College. Support and coaching is provided to new faculty to provide a a strong theoretical foundation of teaching and learning, and to orient them to the teaching tools and strategies required for teaching in a contemporary and modern learning institution. Salary & Terms

Salary: $80.62 - $139.88 per hour commensurate with qualifications and experience
