Job summary

MAKO is seeking a part-time phlebotomy technician in Canada to collect specimens, verify orders, perform data entry and ensure accurate billing data across assigned accounts. The role requires adherence to safety and quality standards, with responsibilities spanning from specimen processing to reporting and occasional travel.

Candidate must have phlebotomy skills, a high school diploma, and willingness to work weekends/holidays in a dynamic clinical setting.

Qualifications

• Must provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to work independently with minimal on-site supervision.
• Phlebotomy skills including pediatric and geriatric.
• Willing to travel and work on weekends/holidays.

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens according to established procedures (blood, drug screens, cytology).
• Verify orders using lab technology systems and directory of services.
• Data entry for patient registration and test orders; enter billing in systems.
• Process specimens: labeling, centrifuging, splitting, freezing as required.
• Use iLabs for assigned accounts daily to support billing data.
• Provide CIR and PPE Resolution reporting to Director as required.
• Perform clerical duties: data entry, inventory, answer phones.
• Read and comply with departmental policies and procedures.
• Verify patient demographics post-venipuncture; ensure labels match.
• Compile and submit monthly statistics; maintain phlebotomy logs.
• Complete training courses; stay updated on phlebotomy techniques.
• Travel to Territory Manager meetings if off-site.
• Participate in special projects and stay updated with communications.
