Job summary

Colonial Group in Ontario is seeking a Lab Patient Technician to support specimen collection from greeting patients through preparation for transportation; a critical role in patient care.

Excellent communication, strong computer skills, and the ability to maintain patient privacy are essential; shifts cover early mornings to evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent is preferred.
  • Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
  • ECG training or experience is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong data entry and computer skills (40 wpm).
  • Commitment to patient privacy and confidentiality.

  • Perform special test collections, such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and complete related documentation.
  • Maintain client relationships by responding to inquiries and requests.
  • Complete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other information related to processing test results.
  • Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

Job description

As a Lab Patient Technician you will be responsible for the specimen collection process, from greeting patients through to preparation of specimens for transportation. This is an important role in patient care and our business, and will let you see the difference that you make in patients’ lives.

Status: Part Time

Schedule: Various shifts

Additional requirements: Successful Candidate for this position should be able to demonstrate strong customer service understanding, data entry skills, blood collection technique, good punctuality and have the flexibility to be able to work any shifts ranging between 6:45am-6:30pm (Monday-Friday) and 6:45am-2:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Successful candidate will be required to work in nearby PSC's within the region whenever operationally needed.

What you will bring to the role:

  • Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.
