Job summary

Thrive Group through its AbleLiving Services arm is hiring a Part-Time Personal Attendant for the Mistywood Project on Stoney Creek Mountain. This not-for-profit program supports individuals with disabilities and seniors, offering HOOPP, health benefits, and growth opportunities.

Under supervision of the Program Coordinator, you will provide non-medical personal support, light housekeeping and life-skills assistance to help clients live independently.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • A personal support worker certificate is not required but is an asset.
  • Ability to empathize with people with physical and emotional needs is essential.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English are required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide non-medical personal support and life-skills assistance.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties.
  • Assist clients with personal care and escort to appointments.
  • Coordinate tasks under direction of the client or alternate decision maker.

We are now hiring a Part-Time Personal Attendant to join our Mistywood Project, a shared living program based on the Stoney Creek Mountain.

AbleLiving Services is part of the Thrive Group. We are a not-for-profit organization that provides services funded through Ontario Health. Ableliving opened its doors in 1978 with the first project being our Binbrook location. Our Binbrook location provides supports for individuals with disabilities, seniors, as well as those with long-term chronic ventilation support needs.

This program operates 7 days a week and candidates needs to be flexible and available for a variety of shifts including days, afternoons and nights. This includes every other weekend and statutory holidays.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, this position is responsible for providing non-medical personal support services, life-skills support and light housekeeping duties to enable clients to remain in their own homes and live as independently as possible. Duties include assisting clients with personal care, arranging and escorting clients to appointments, and housekeeping services. Such duties are carried out under the direction of the client or alternate decision maker and in accordance with Client Service Contracts, laws and regulations governing service provision.

EMPLOYMENT GUIDE:

A High School Diploma and experience in the provision of personal support services to people with disabilities and/or seniors are requirements for this position.

  • Additional certification in personal support care, first aid, health care or other related qualification preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to empathize with people with physical and emotional needs is essential.
  • Knowledge of basic math and ability to do calculations and quantity measurements are required.
  • Must be able to plan and organize work and perform tasks according to priority.
  • Ability to make solid decisions and problem-solve effectively are also essential.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, with a competent level of English are requirements.
  • Able to communicate in other languages is an asset.
  • Must demonstrate high commitment to providing exceptional customer service and be reliable, punctual, and capable of managing time effectively.
  • Ability to develop supportive relationships and work collaboratively with clients, family members, colleagues, volunteers, and community partners are essential.
  • Must be able to take direction and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check or Criminal Reference Check is required

A personal support worker certificate is not required for this position, but it is considered an asset.

Job Type: Part Time

Hourly Rate: $24.00
