The
Overview
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and repair of all NFI’s buildings, grounds, and infrastructure, including tasks like routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and diagnosing and repairing issues.
Available Shift: Monday to Friday, 8-4pm; will only be 3 days per week
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and complete minor repairs involving plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other building issues.
- Perform repairs and upkeep of NFI facilities, such as dock door and dock plate repairs, racking repair, concrete repair and patchwork, painting, flooring repair and installation, carpentry, and drywall repair.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance tasks, including inspections, lubrication, and cleaning of facility equipment.
- Build and move office furniture, install cabinetry and countertops and mount various wall boards
- Coordinate with contractors and skilled trades for more in-depth or major repairs overseeing the project to finish.
- Ensuring safety systems (like smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors) are functional at all times.
- Maintain an inventory of power and hand tools and repair supplies.
- Maintain records of preventive maintenance inspections and work performed.
- Respond to maintenance, repair or requests from the General Manager of all Canadian Sites.
- Assist with winter snow removal, landscaping and pest control.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by the role and determined by management”
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Strong mechanical aptitude is essential for diagnosing and repairing building systems.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, concrete repair and carpentry.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and schematics.
- Ability to identify and solve problems related to building maintenance
- Good organizational skills to manage tasks and maintain records
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including heavy lifting
- Understanding relevant building codes and safety regulations and always wearing required PPE.
- Effective communication skills to interact with warehouse staff, contractors and building owners.
Other
- Strong experience with a variety of power and hand tools
- May be required to operate material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks)
- Proven experience with working at heights
