Job summary

Canadian Blood Services is seeking a Regular part-time Registered Nurse (Donor Centre Nurse) to join our dynamic Collections team in Peterborough, Ontario. The role involves supporting donor blood collection and components, ensuring safety protocols and accurate documentation, and fostering a positive donor experience.

You will perform venipuncture, monitor donors, provide post-donation care, and coach donor centre staff as needed.

Qualifications

• Completion of accredited nursing program and current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province is required.
• 2 years of experience working as a nurse is considered an asset as is a certification in First Aid and CPR.
• Previous experience as a preceptor or with coaching others is an asset.
• Technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems and programs.
• Ability to communicate in more than one language is an asset and enhances the quality of donor interactions.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the collection of blood and blood products ensuring adherence to safety protocols and required documentation.
• Provide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff, acting as team lead for collection events as needed.
• Perform venipuncture according to established standards, monitor donors for safety and comfort, and provide post-donation care and instruction.
• Maintain complete and precise records across multiple systems (screening, collection, product storage, sample preparation, packaging).
• Contribute to a positive donor experience and encourage donations.
