Job summary

Homewood Health Centre is seeking an Assistant Cook to join a collaborative team delivering food service to clients and customers. This part-time position involves supporting cooks, preparing menu items, and ensuring food safety and quality.

You will work under supervision, handle texture adaptations, manage temperatures, and assist with catering and inventory. Vaccination and safety policies apply as part of the health-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4000 hours of culinary experience under a Red Seal chef or completion of an apprenticeship
• Ability to challenge the Red Seal exam within 2 years or already hold Red Seal certification
• Manual dexterity and ability to stand for long periods
• Ability to cut with a knife for extended periods
• Ability to lift and move baking sheets up to 10 kg and push/pull carts
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• Proven attendance record

Responsibilities

• Prepare texture-adapted recipes and cook menu items
• Prepare items for special menus or allergies under supervision
• Prepare food for staff cafeteria under supervision
• Take cooking temperatures and record on production sheets
• Prepare food for catering as directed by the cook
• Assist with protein thawing and inventory/ordering control
• Prepare breaded, stuffed and other items as needed for menu
• Organize and manage freezer space
• Replace the cook during absences
