Thermea Spa Village Whitby in Whitby, Ontario seeks a part-time Cook to join our wellness village team. You will prepare dishes, plate meals, and support service teams to deliver a memorable guest experience.

The candidate should have culinary training and at least two years of experience, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to handle busy periods. The role offers an hourly wage and a positive team environment near Whitby’s spa village.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years experience in a similar position is an asset.
• Culinary Diploma from a credited school is an asset.
• Patient with a positive attitude under pressure.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Positive attitude, autonomy, dynamism and detail-oriented.
• Ability to work long hours on your feet and lift 50 lbs (23 kg).

Responsibilities

• Inspect, clean and maintain kitchen areas and service zones for safety and sanitation.
• Regulate temperatures of ovens, broilers, grills and other equipment to ensure proper cooking.
• Follow restaurant standards, policies and procedures consistently.
• Portion, arrange and garnish dishes according to standards and plate specs.
• Assist in food prep at designated stations during peak and off-peak times.
• Substitute for or assist other cooks during rush periods and breaks.
• Open or close the kitchen following checklists and assist in closing activities.
• Coordinate with team to meet guests’ needs and support operations.
• Perform other related duties as requested.

What we need.

Reporting to the Sous Chef, the Cook exemplifies and positively influence the kitchen culture as set by organization standards. The incumbent prepares dishes ordered by customers in a quick and efficient manner, while respecting established standards; works closely with the service team to provide excellent service and memorable customer experience. The Cook also performs other duties in the areas of food and final plate preparation including plating and garnishing of cooked items and preparing appropriate garnishes for all hot & cold menu item plates in accordance with corporate standards. Sanitation, health and safety rules & regulations are an integral part of their work habits.

What you’ll do

• Inspect, clean and maintain food preparation areas, such as equipment and work surfaces, or serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices;
• Ensure food is stored, prepared and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, fryers, roasters and other kitchen equipment;
• Know, understand and comply consistently with the restaurant’s standards, rules, policies and procedures;
• Portion, arrange and garnish food, according to Thermëa standard portion sizes, recipe specifications and plate specifications;
• Assist in food prep assignments for designated station during off-peak periods as needed;
• Substitute for or assist other cooks during emergencies or rush periods and breaks;
• Open or Close the kitchen following the closing checklist for kitchen stations and assist in other closing activities;
• Coordinate with and assist fellow employees to meet guests’ needs and support the operation of the restaurant;
• Perform other related duties.

Profile needed
