Job summary

The City of Markham is seeking a Municipal Law Enforcement Officer I (Casual/On Call) to perform field enforcement, interpret by-laws, and respond to public inquiries. You will help maintain regulatory compliance with Parking and Sign By-laws and may handle after-hours enforcement and documentation for hearings.

Applicants should have a law enforcement credential and experience in parking control; a valid Ontario driver’s license and Vulnerable Sector Check are required.

Qualifications

• University degree or college diploma in law enforcement or related field required.
• Experience in parking control enforcement preferred.
• Strong client service and interpersonal skills required to liaise with staff, businesses and the public.

Responsibilities

• Respond to parking operation complaints and emergencies with professional enforcement.
• Act as Community Ambassador by explaining by-laws and city policies to public and staff.
• Investigate and issue penalty notices for vehicles illegally parked; assist police with towing when needed.
• Prepare briefs of evidence and documentation for hearings and testify in court as required.
• Support special enforcement initiatives (Accessible Parking, signage, fire routes, school zones).
• Assist with traffic control at events and distribute public notices and agendas.
• Coordinate after-hours inspections and reporting; support other MLEOs in investigations.
• Attend meetings and trainings as required; handle after-hours by-law complaints.
